I saw a TV program, Busines Matters, and they were talking of an Indian restaurant on sixth avenue, that I recall, was recently opened. Do you have info on it, example. name. address and any comments you might have about this establishment. Thanks for your help

Hi Yvonne, you’re probably looking for Gateway To India – 2603 6th Ave Tacoma, WA 98406 (253) 552-5022.

Comment by Liz — September 7, 2005 @ 11:16 am
This is actually more popular than I thought it would be. Glad it’s useful to more than just me. I’ll add more to list as I go.

I had an awful experience at Gateway to India. The service was horrible, we were forgotten for ages and passed between servers like a table of plague. The food was really salty. However, the decor was very pretty
If I have a hankering for indian food I always go to India Mahal. They have two locations but I always go to the downtown one, located at 823 Pacific Ave. I will warn you the service is prompt and efficient but not friendly. There is one lady who is the primary server and I have only seen her smile once but your food always comes out in a reasonable time and your drinks stay full. The food in great! Especially the paneer dishes.
I ate at Il Fiasco last night for the first time. While it is a little pricier than places I generally go, it was worth every penny. I had the scallops and my girlfriend had the duck. Our server was very helpful and picked a fantastic wine for us. If italian is what you crave and you have a little extra dough Il Fiasco is hard to beat.
Comment by Maxwell309 — September 27, 2005 @ 7:22 am
I’ll agree that Il Fiasco is terrific. It’s one of the best dining experiences all around that I’ve ever had. All the meals ordered at my table that night were superb. We loved it. It was an unexpected surprise, and as Maxwell pointed out, worth every penny.

Any info on a supposedly new restaurant out in Parkland near PLU.
Comment by Yvonne — October 9, 2005 @ 7:37 pm
Sorry the new restaurant in Parkland near Pacific Lutheran Universiry I inquired about is supposedly Italian.
Comment by Yvonne — October 9, 2005 @ 7:39 pm
The best grub near PLU is “On the Bayou”, the Cajun place. Huge portions. A whole wall of crucifixes, to boot.
Comment by daniel luechtefeld — October 12, 2005 @ 4:00 pm
Ahem, From The Bayou… But I agree, From The Bayou is one of the better restaurants in that area I’ve been to. Adding to this list now.
Yvonne — I’m haven’t heard of the Italian Restaurant you’ve mentioned. If you find out, let me know and I’ll add it to the list.
Comment by sparkrobot — October 12, 2005 @ 4:52 pm
yo just stumbled upon this… looks like a good list.
any recomendations as to what is good to go to and not spend a whole lot in the stadium and ruston way area of T-Town???
Comment by Jason Jones — November 2, 2005 @ 1:57 pm
Jason Jones,
I like the flautas at the mexican place on Tacoma next to the Columbia Bank in Stadium. I like to drink beer at the Parkway. The fish and chips at the Spar (in Old Town) are my personal favorite fish and chips in town.
I just ate at the Sea Grill, downtown. I actually ate there kind of by accident (kind of a long story but it involves me, a bus and the founder of a multimillion dollar internet company). Anyway the food was superb but its got that “aren’t we so f-ing great” attitude that El Gaucho has (same owners). I still go to El Gaucho though, just to sit in their cigar bar, drink manhattans and eat one of their superb appetizers. Anyway I loved the food, the service did what the service shoudl do, I really did like the wine captain (he actually knew what the hell he was talking about) and it was a good experience. Is it worth $40-$50 a person? Well sure, I guess but it is all about priorities I guess.

I noticed Galanga Thai was not on the list. The food is excellent! I also noticed that The Tacoma Club Restaurant was not on the list either. There is a dress code, but you are more than welcome to try it. Reservations are required.
Comment by Robin McCoy — March 17, 2006 @ 11:50 am
Good point Robin. I’ve eaten at Galanga Thai. I enjoyed the food it’s authentic and real-deal. I’m adding it to this list. As for The Tacoma Club Restaurant, I can’t say I’ve ever been there (or heard of it until this moment). I’ll add what I could find about it on the web to this list as well. Thanks.

theres supposedly a place opening up on broadway in tacoma… its called twisted cue i think… any info sparky?
Comment by sir nicholaus — February 8, 2007 @ 1:58 pm
Negative at this time sir nicholaus. Other than a long thread happening over on Exit133 indicating that Twisted Cues is coming, I’ve not heard anything else.
Edit: I should also mention there’s an article on Twisted Cues recently run in The News Tribune.
Comment by sparkrobot — February 8, 2007 @ 2:04 pm
Now, here’s my problem; I’m trying to find contact information. There’s got to be a number or e-mail address to locate the owner. Might you have some info that could help me out…I’d rather not just show up. (I’m looking for a job in Tacoma, as a bartender.) Or maybe some other new places in this same category, that are opening soon, or have just opened. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Comment by sir nicholaus — February 14, 2007 @ 3:02 pm
Perhaps an idea is to call John Gillie at The News Tribune. He is the author of the article on Twisted Cue and may have more information on how to make contact with that group… Listed near the bottom of the article’s page is his phone number and email address.
Comment by sparkrobot — February 14, 2007 @ 6:12 pm
The Twisted Cue is at 539 Broadway. Winfield’s Restaurant, owned by Thomas Mott, is opening on March 9th. Formerly David’s on Broadway. They’ve been remodelling it. Check out this article.
Good luck with your Bartender job. You’ll probably get it. However, I know he has hired most, if not all, of his crew.
Comment by l55centaur — February 27, 2007 @ 12:57 am
Thanks for the update I55Centaur. I (slightly) edited your post so the long URI you posted fit in the content column.
Comment by sparkrobot — February 27, 2007 @ 12:03 pm
Here’s an update on Winfield’s. Opening has been delayed, so jobs may still be available. No word on the new date. Will keep you posted. Thanks for this site. It’s very helpful!
Comment by l55centaur — March 1, 2007 @ 7:29 am
Sparky, will you please remove the phone number I posted for Winfield’s. They do not want people to call. Here is the info if someone wants to apply. They are hiring for all positions.. http://www.jobvertise.com/job/5292587. Thanks

Good call thanks. I mentioned it back in May, but forgot to add it to this list.
Comment by sparkrobot — November 5, 2007 @ 8:57 pm
The Ram are you f-ing kidding me the Ram is probably one of the crappiest resterants ever. Even worse than than my spelling. The service sucks and food in terrible. I’ve offered to train their wait staff many times. But I guess my credientails are too good.
Comment by STEVE SWORTZ — April 22, 2008 @ 6:34 pm
The RAM was never my favorite place either. The RAM was included here since people seemed to like to yell at televisions while their sports teams lost or won. Though the patio in the summertime is actually pretty nice place to have a beer or 4 if you can find a seat.
Comment by sparkrobot — April 23, 2008 @ 8:45 am
Nice list. We love Funky Iguana. I’d recommend removing India Mahal from your list. I recently had a rather nasty and violent encounter with the owner. You can read my story here if you wish.
